About this course

The Intermediate online production course is perfect for people who have their own studio, work completely inside the computer and who:

  • Have a decent understanding of electronic music and DAWs (Digital Audio Workstation) such as Cubase, Ableton or Presonus Studio one.
  • Have completed our Basic production course and want to take those skills to the next level.
  • Have written a finished demo they want more detailed analysis and advice on how to give it that pro sound.
  • Have the passion and desire to take their production to the next level and want to gain knowledge, tips and tricks to increase workflow and produce better quality music.

We aim to provide a unique one-to-one mentoring experience that interacts directly with you, via Skype and it’s screen share facility, to ensure we cover what YOU need and what YOU want to learn in order to take your production to the next level.

Whatever style of music you make or whatever level you are at this efficient mentoring method will mean you will see better results, specific to your needs, much faster than following a generic video or you tube tutorial all in the comfort of your own studio, using the tools you have available.

The content of each course will be individually designed and structured towards whatever meets your requirements upto an intermediate level. Regardless of which DAW you use we will endeavour to explain the core fundamental principles of what you need to do to improve and offer instant guidance and support.

This course will start by analysing your work to date, re-assessing your intermediate production skills and discussing what you think its positives and negatives are, if any, and then discussing what we think we should cover together in order to focus on and improve its mixdown, mastering and content.

Throughout your course we can examine:

  • Continued exploration of your DAW and its features.
  • Intermediate EQing, compression and limiter techniques.
  • How to enhance your track to give it more impact on the dancefloor and with the DJs.
  • Stems of previously released tracks so you can examine in more detail a successful track and its components.
  • How to add FX and other edits to enhance drops, build ups and edits.
  • Working with Mono & Stereo to create a better mix.
  • Sampling, simple drum creation using audio, and a deeper examination of audio manipulation.
  • Advanced use of Spectrum and phase analysers and other tricks.
  • Improve your tracks and examine key frequency positives and pitfalls.
  • Tips on how to mixdown your track better.
  • Introduction to Mid / Side processing and manipulation.
  • Creating your own style and production footprint.
  • Deeper look at mastering chains and busses.
  • Examine the basic principles of synthesis and sound creation using Massive and Xfer Serum.

We will provide you with some of our exclusive stems, samples, breaks and presets, if needed, to help you on your way.

After each two hour long session the student will hopefully be able to implement what they have learnt to their track or a new demo ready to re-analyse their progress at the start of the next lesson. It may also be beneficial for the student to send individual parts / stems of their track for more detailed analysis by the tutor.

FAQs

What’s the difference between the intermediate and basic course?

The intermediate course is designed to be a follow on to the basic course and would therefore require a moderate level of understanding about DAWs, layout, music production and processes. If the tutor thinks that you are more or less advanced after your initial briefing they can advise a suitable course of action.

Is there a possibility of releasing my music through Technique Recordings or Worldwide Audio Recordings?

Yes, that’s a possibility. After the course is completed the tutor will mentor the student and continue to give them advice and even, potentially, put them forward for consideration for a potential release on Technique or Worldwide Audio recordings.

Do you offer refunds if I don't want to continue or miss my agreed session?

No, unfortunately we can’t offer refunds once you have paid your fee and/or if you don’t give us at least 24 hours notice that you are going to miss your session.

Do I have to own any hardware / software before I enroll on the production course?

Yes, you will need the internet (Skype), a PC or Mac running a professional industry standard DAW like Cubase, Presonus Studio One, Ableton to complete the course. It would also help, but its not essential, to have a copy of Native Instrument’s Massive or Xfer Serum or similar if you wish to learn some basics about synthesis and sound design.

Do you provide any software, samples or stems?

Yes, we can provide some links to free software alternatives and give you access to stems and samples to work with on your course.
